(updated 3/27/2025)
Release 2025.01c differs from Release 2025.01b as follows:
- Schedule P revised to ensure the correct transfer of the AMT computed on Schedule P, p.1-2,
to Form 540, line 61, when Schedule P, p.3-4 does NOT exist for the return. CAUTION: For a return prepared with a prior release
that includes Schedule P, p.1-2, but not Schedule P, p. 3-4, you MUST, after installing this update, access Schedule P, p.1-2,
then exit from the return normally until you return to the Main Menu. The return will then be automatically corrected.
(Prior to this update, the amount transfered to Form 540, line 61, could be line 3 of Part III of Schedule P rather than
line 26 of Part II of Schedule P.)
- Auto-create revised to force the auto-creation of Schedule P, p.3-4, when Schedule P, p.1-2 exists,
and to force the auto-creation of Schedule P, p.1-2, when Schedule P, p.3-4 exists. (Unlike prior years, all 4 pages of Schedule P must
exist if any page exists because of the FTB's redesign of Schedule P.)
- Control Form revised to remove the ability to block the auto-creation of Schedule P. (All 4 pages of
Schedule P must now always exist if there is an AMT or TAMT as computed in Schedule P, Part II, or there is a credit that must be
claimed in Schedule P, Part III.)
Release 2025.01b differs from Release 2025.01a as follows:
- Schedule P revised to conform with the latest FTB requirements, as follows:
- Printout format for monetary amounts revised. Initial FTB requirements for this new addition to the FTB
Absolute Positioning Forms family included the requirement that all monetary amounts be printed as left-justified amounts
within their boxes on the form, as is the requirement for all other Absolute Positioning Forms. Although the published
specifications still reflect this requirement, the FTB now requires that all monetary amounts be right-justified because of
certain unique features of this form. The software now conforms with this new requirement, even though all other
Absolute Positioning Forms (Schedules CA and X and Forms 540, 3514, and 5805) are required to be printed with left-justified numbers.
This is a MANDATORY UPDATE for any tax return with a Schedule P, which computes the alternative minimum tax (AMT) and collects most credits
that must be reflected on Form 540.
- Printout format for line 22 revised. for certain children under 24 years of age. This change only applies to the tax
return of specified children for whom the exemption amount is drastically lower than the amounts printed on the official FTB form.
The specifical calculation reduces the exemption amount for line 22 from 5 and 6 figure amounts to just $9,450 plus earned income.
The software prints the flag 'C' to indicate when the special calculation for children applies and justify the lower exemption.
However, the software formerly print the 'C' within the box reserved for the monetary amount of the exemption, and therefore interfered with the proper
printout of the monetary amount. That mistake is now corrected by moving the 'C' to the left of the box for the monetary amount.
- California Tax Forms Guide 2025 Edition further updated. The form-by-form on-screen manual for our California Form 540 software
was not fully updated in the previous released, as mistakedly indicaticated below. Select threshold amounts for some forms were not yet updated, and
certain instructions were incomplete or outdated. But the entire manual is now properly updated throughout. It is accessible from the Documents
button on our floating Tax Preparer Control Panel and is highly recommended to keep on the screen when working on forms built into the software,
Release 2025.01a differs from Release 2025.01 as follows:
- Schedule P added to all levels. This schedule, which combines a form for the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) (Parts I and II of the schedule)
with a form for Credit Limitations (Part III of the form). Formerly a 2-page schedule with the AMT on page 1 and the Credit Limitations on page 2,
it has now grown to 4 pages, with Parts I and II and the first few lines of Part III now on pages 1 and 2 and the remainder of Part III on pages 3 and 4.
With the addition of Schedule P, our California Form 540 software is now complete.
- Form 3519 revised with the addition of a new option to print only its voucher rather than always its worksheet in addition to its voucher.
Formerly the worksheet was always printed in addition to the voucher. But a question has now been added at the bottom of the last screen to let you choose.
Answer Yes to the question Print worksheet with voucher, and the worksheet will be printed along with the voucher, as it always has in the past.
But answer No and the voucher alone will be printed.
- Form 540-ES revised with the addition of the option to print only its voucher rather than always its worksheet in addition to its 4 vouchers.
Formerly the worksheet was always printed in addition to the vouchers. But a question has now been added at the bottom of the last screen to let you choose.
Answer Yes to the question Print worksheet with vouchers, and the worksheet will be printed along with the vouchers, as it always has in the past.
But answer No and the vouchers alone will be printed.
- California Tax Forms Guide 2025 Edition updated. The form-by-form on-screen manual for our California Form 540 software is now fully updated for
the 2025 filing season. It is accessible from the Documents button on our floating Tax Preparer Control Panel and is highly recommended to keep
on the screen when working on forms built into the software,
