Release 2020.01e differs from Release 2020.01d as follows:
- Graphic Form 540 printouts revised to correct alignment errors for X's in certain boxes on page 1.
Affected boxes are the first box on the page (indicating California filing status different from federal),
the box for line 4 (head of household filing status), and the box for line 5 (qualifying widow(er) filing status).
Spurious printing of SEE ATTACHED at line 10 when all dependents are shown is also eliminated. No calculations are affected.
- Form 540 e-file revised to ensure that a check in the box for line 6 is recognized and to avert potential
errors related to year entry for Qualifying Widow(er).
- Form 3532 printouts revised so that a zero is explicitly printed for line 4 when the gross income for the line
is indeed zero, to avert the possibility of the IRS concluding that you failed to supply the amount.
Release 2020.01d differs from Release 2020.01c as follows:
- Form 3805V added (Premium Level only) for NOL Computation and NOL and Disaster Loss Limitations.
It is important to note that carrybacks are no longer allowed, but carryovers can be carried forward for 20 years.
- Schedule CA revised for official printouts so that any write-in explanation for Part I, Section C, line 22,
is printed in the clear area below the label for line 22 rather than overwriting the label.
- Form 3800 revised so that the ratio at line 12b is computed and shown to 4 decimal places rather than 3
to conform with the latest FTB instructions.
- Schedule X revised for official printouts so that the number of lines of explanation for Part II, line 2,
that are printed directly on the form is reduced from 13 to 10 lines to fit within the reduced space on the 2019 form.
(If greater than 10 lines, the explanation is printed in a separate supporting statement that is cross-referenced at line 2.)
- Form 540 Tax Forms Guide 2020 Edition added and completely updated to support the current release.
The on-screen manual is accessible from the floating Tax Preparer Control Panel for all levels of the software.
Release 2020.01c differs from Release 2020.01b as follows:
- Forms added to ALL levels:
- Schedule P. Part III (page 2 of Schedule P) added for claiming credits and applying Credit Limitations
to most personal and business credits.
- Form 3540 added for filing a Credit Carryover and Recapture Summary. The Credit Carryover
part of this form applies only to expired credits and is superseded by Schedule P, Part III, when the latter exists in the return.
- Form 3800 added for performing the Tax Computation for Certain Children with Unearned Income,
which requires you to have information from the parent's tax return since this form always bases the tax on the parent's tax rates
(unlike the analogous federal Form 8615, where this computation method is optional).
- Forms added to Premium Level:
- Schedule G-1 added for figuring the Tax on Lump-Sum Distributions.
- Form 3510 added for claiming Credit for Prior Year Alternative Minimum Tax.
- Form 3523 added for claiming California's Research Credit.
- Form 3533 and 3533-B added for reporting a Change of Address with the appropriate stand-alone form
when changing the address on the tax return would not be timely reporting.
- Form 3805Z for figuring NOL deductions and credit carryovers with the Enterprise Zone Deduction and Credit Summary.
- Form 3806 for figuring the Los Angeles Revitalization Zone Net Operating Loss (NOL) Carryover Deduction.
- Form 540 revised at line 63 by adding a data entry line for taxes relating to nonqualified deferred compensation
(NQDC) and removing the data entry line for recapture from Form 3805Z, which no longer applies.
Release 2020.01b differs from Release 2020.01a as follows:
- Form 5805 added to all levels for figuring penalty tax for Underpayment of Estimated Tax by Individuals,
supporting the short method, the regular method, and the annualized income installment method. (Note that the new July 15 deadline for filing
Form 540 returns and paying tax due does not affect this form. This form applies only to payments due January 15, 2020 and earlier and
figures its penalty only through April 15, 2020.)
- Form 5805F added to all levels for figuring penalty tax for Underpayment of Estimated Tax by Farmers and Fishermen.
(Note that the new July 15 deadline for filing
Form 540 returns and paying tax due does not affect this form. This form applies only to payments due January 15, 2020 and earlier and
figures its penalty only through April 15, 2020.)
Release 2020.01a differs from Release 2020.01 as follows:
- Form 540-ES added to all levels for figuring estimated tax for 2020.
- Schedule X added to all levels for amending the return for tax year 2019.
- Form 3514 added to Standard and Premium Levels for claiming the California Earned Income Tax Credit.
CAUTION: For a translated return, you MUST itemize to the worksheet from the top of screen 2 of Form 3514 so that
you can provide the additional information required by California and ensure that the new additional credit for children under 6 is given.
- Grpahic Form 540 page 4 revised to correct the page numbering at the bottom of the form. (The page was formerly
marked as page 3 and addition to the proper page 4.)
- FTB Form 540-ES and instructions added to Standard and Premium Levels.
