for 2003 Edition of HowardSoft's Tax Preparer®

SUBJECT: Problems with Sch. D printouts (ER 9/LN 30769 for page 1 or erroneous page 2 data)

Problem. While printing Schedule D, one of the following problems may occur:

• For facsimile printouts: ER 9/LN 30769 encountered while printing page 1.
• For fill-in printouts: Data on page 2 printouts is wrong.
• For graphic printouts: Graphics is missing on page 2 printouts and data is wrong (Premium Level updates only)

Perspective. The problem exists only if all of the following conditions are met:

• The problem ONLY exists if you have EXACTLY 4 Gain/Loss Worksheets to support line 8 of Schedule D (for long-term gains and losses). With less than 4 worksheets all data is properly printed directly on page 1 of the schedule; with more than 4 worksheets all data is properly printed in a separate supporting statement for the line.
• No calculations are affected. The problem is solely a printing problem, even though the data on page 2 of Schedule D, if they print, are erroneous data.

Workaround. Create an extra blank worksheet for line 8 of Schedule D so that 5 worksheets support the line instead of 4. All data will then be printed in a supporting statement for the line and a proper cross-reference will be printed on Schedule D itself.

Solution. The problem is totally averted by printing the return using release 2003.01d (or ef2003.01l for e-file).
